Another
Comic con has come and gone. Needles to
say, I had a lot of fun and got to hang out with a bunch of really cool people
while I was there. I just want to point out some of the highlights for me.
I had the pleasure of meeting a few famous humans while at
Comic – Con this year. First up was Yaya Han. She is an internationally famous
cosplayer with close to 14 years of experience. She makes her own intricate
costumes by hand and runs her own cosplay company. She is about as legit as it
gets when it comes to cosplay. She was stunning and incredibly nice. Apparently
being in Winnipeg was her first Canadian experience. According to her, she
really loved our city and felt we were incredibly nice, hospitable and our con
was very organized! It is nice to hear that some people from big cities
actually enjoy their experience here.
I was super nervous, but I (thankfully) did not do the hover hand while I got a picture with her.
I also got to meet Bruce Boxleitner of Tron and Babylon 5 fame! He was also very cool and signed my 20th Anniversary Edition of Tron! I was a little star-struck, but I managed to talk to him about Tron. He loves the franchise and plans to be part of the series as long as he breaths. I definitely squealed a bit when I walked away!
I met James Marsters briefly, thanks to the help of a good friend of mine! I will be eternally grateful! Apparently Mr. Marsters is a very kind and humble person. My interaction with him was seconds long, but he looked me right in the eye and shook my hand with both of his hands, telling me it was a pleasure to meet me. I FREAKING SHOOK HANDS WITH SPIKE! Also Brainiac I guess.
I also met a couple lovely ladies by the names of Samantha Ann Christianson and Mel Heflin. The former is a make-up/body paint artist and the latter is a model/indie movie actress from the States. They just started talking to me as I was walking by their booth. They were both incredibly kind and told me about the various projects they are working on. Both are super cool people!
I actually did not buy a lot of things this year because reasons, but I did pick up the first issue of The Imagination Manifesto by G.M.B. Chomichuk (Greg). The coolest thing about this dude is that he loves local artist and was offering to look at people’s portfolio’s and give them pointers and advice about their work. I convinced my older brother to show Greg his art work and Greg was quite impressed! I hope my brother takes his advice and sets up and artist table of his own next year at C4!
Other than that, it was some pretty standard
fare at Ye Ol’ Comic-Con. I got a lot of 3DS Street Passes, bought a
Borderlands shirt, bumped into some good friends, almost walked into Aaron Ashmore
(He’s really tall) and just wandered the floor having a general good time.
